Currently there is a 2-3 month waiting list for appointments in the medical clinic and 4-6 month waiting list for appointments in the predictive testing clinic. Every effort is made to fill empty appointment spots so waitlist times can be maintained at a minimum.
The medical clinic runs every Tuesday each month. The predictive testing clinic runs simultaneously on Tuesdays plus one Wednesday a month at BC Children's and Women's Hospital.
The patient decides who and how many people they wish to include at every appointment. Every effort is made to accommodate family or friend support systems chosen by the patient for appointments.
For the medical clinic, clinical secretary Sandy Hazan contacts the patient directly to schedule appointments once a referral is received from the family doctor. Yes. The Centre for Huntington Disease is considered a specialist clinic and therefore requires a new referral form every six months per patient from family doctors to facilitate care. CHD specialists are not permitted to see HD patients without new referrals from the family doctor.
